Are Mobile Phones Dangerous?

Bookmark and Share

Sure, I can hit you over the head with my cell. No matter where you are a mobile phone's dangerous side shows itself then. In all seriousness, it seems that the biggest danger from cell use is from people who insist on talking or texting on them while driving. This seems to be an American pastime, as everywhere you look people are chatting it up behind the wheel.

Another of the reported hazards are the dangerous radiation-emitting towers. While the handsets emit very small amounts of electromagnetic radiation, these towers pump out massive amounts. Although you may get great signal in your neighborhood, that cell tower might just be slowly cooking your brain. Cell tower radiation has been blamed in part for higher instances of brain cancer, birth defects, and genetic disorders.

That being said, it is simply a fact that a cell phone emits radiation. Any device that emits radiation should be treated with respect and care - you should make an effort to minimize exposure. Using a headset when talking, sending texts instead of having long conversations, and keeping your mobile conversations brief are all good ways of lessening your exposure to potentially harmful electromagnetic influence.

Are mobile phones dangerous? Perhaps.

There are so many lobbyists paying so many millions of dollars to fund bogus research on either side of this that we may never know for certain. What I do know is that the phones of today run on much less energy that the phones of just a few years ago. In the nineteen eighties, a mobile handset included a huge battery, a carrying case, and about twenty pounds of girth. These phones kicked out a high level of radiation by anyone's standards. A standard mobile device today runs on a small 3.5 volt battery that lasts for several hours. This being the case, the math indicates that we are a bit safer than we used to be, and probably safer than we think.

Children using cellphones are more of a risk than adults as their skulls are not fully developed yet, or so the experts say. Taking this into consideration would you be so quick to furnish your child with a cell phone if this is the case?

The dangers of mobile phones will keep rearing its head over time as we are still in its infancy but the cellphone is handy and evolving in use and in technology so watch this space.
