An image of what is reported to be an Android-powered Sony Ericsson device has appeared online Published on May 11, 2011
Is Sony Ericsson about to bulk up its Android arsenal with the addition of a dedicated Cybershot device? According to this morning’s report it is – and there’s even a blurry picture to accompany the claims.
It has been a busy year so far for Sony Ericsson. It has updated its entire Xperia range with some seriously notable handsets including the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play and Arc and, for all intents and purposes, re-established its brand name in the hearts and minds of UK customers.
But this momentum seems set to continue with an Android-powered Cybershot device – yet another first for Sony Ericsson.
According to Pocket-Now, ‘The Cyber-shot is a powerful brand among imaging aficionados and many others and it looks like Sony Ericsson is bringing the brand back, this time in a combination with Google's Android, which might turn out to be a real success.’
At present, there’s been no additional specs released for the supposed Android Cybershot shot device, which makes us think there could be quite a few wholes in this morning’s assertions.
Nevertheless, a dedicated Sony Ericsson Android camera phone, especially one that bares the Cybershot moniker, will no doubt be a hit with consumers.
From the image it does look like ‘Cybershot’ is etched onto the device, just below the display, so this very well could be one of the first prototypes of an up-and-coming Android camera phone from Sony Ericsson.
Obviously, if this is a camera phone it’ll have to have some serious camera specs – we’d expect to see 12-megapixels and above. Anything less and users will feel Sony Ericsson isn’t really trying.
All in all, this is quite an interesting rumour and its one that we’ll be tracking closely. Expect more news very soon.
We’re going to do some digging.
